Police rule out terrorism in Sichuan Province bus explosion

A man has been seriously injured after setting off an explosion on a bus in Sichuan province, but police have ruled out terrorism as a motive.

A man was accused of causing an explosion on a bus in a southwest China city on Monday which injured 15 people including himself, local police said on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old suspect, surnamed Gu, was accused of setting off the blast on a No.2 bus in downtown Leshan City, Sichuan Province, at 6:35pm. He has been apprehended by police.

Gu, a local, has a history of drug use and theft, police said, without disclosing the motive for the attack. They did rule out terrorism, however.
