Former Chinese international striker Xie Hui has joined Nantong Zhiyun Football Club as the head coach, his former owner Shanghai SIPG announced Tuesday.

"I have been paying attention to Zhiyun's games since the team advanced to the China League, especially impressed by the zeal of home fans. I believe I could bring more victories to the fans and more glory to Nantong," Xie said.

Xie joined Shanghai SIPG in 2015 and helped to train the team's reserves. From 2016 to 2019, he served as the assistant coach of SIPG and fought with the team for four consecutive seasons, making contributions to the team's crown of the Chinese Super League (CSL) in 2018 and the CFA Super Cup in 2019.

As Xie's previous employer, Shanghai SIPG expressed in the official announcement gratitude to his hard work and wished him a better career.

Meanwhile, according to the announcement released by Nantong Zhiyun, Xie was rated as an outstanding representative of the young coaches in CSL with an open mind to accept new concepts.

"He is good at exploring young players and prefer attack when setting up tactics, which meets the demand of our future development," the announcement said.
