Little girl creates ceremony to honor 'heroic' father
A girl in central China held a special award ceremony for her heroic father after witnessing him saving a mother and her son from a river, China News Service reported.
The mother jumped into the water trying to save her son after he suddenly fell into the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei Province, around 8pm on July 15.
Gao Fan, 34, who was enjoying the cool at the riverside with his father and daughter, rushed to help after discovering the situation.
He held the mother's arm and swam to the shore while the woman held her son tightly. They were then pulled to safety by onlookers.
Thanks to Gao's timely rescue, the woman and her son escaped without injury.
Gao Fan said his father had saved people from drowning twice before, which had a big influence on him.
After witnessing her father's heroic act, the 7-year-old daughter, Gao Jiayi, decided to award him. She remembered her school award ceremonies so decided to make a special one of her own.
She drew a certificate of merit and made a medal by herself before holding a ceremony for her father at home on July 16.
"My father learned from my grandpa and I will learn from him. Both of them are heroes in my heart," Jiayi said. "I will not only study hard, but also become a helpful student."
