Business leaders share secrets of entrepreneurial success

Vincent H. S. Lo, chairman of Shui On Group, shared with students his secrets of success during a forum held by the School of Management at Fudan University.

For young entrepreneurs, the successful start of a company hinges on the creation of value and a long-standing vision, participants said during the recent Si Yuan Global Leader Forum held at Fudan University.

“You need to understand the market and have a subjective evaluation of yourself,” Vincent H. S. Lo, chairman of Shui On Group, said during the forum held by Fudan’s School of Management.

“But above all, your company should create value instead of simply creating money,” Lo said.

Gary Rieschel, founding partner of Qiming Venture Partners, suggested that young entrepreneurs should “identify potential early, partner aggressively and think globally.”

He pointed out that China’s health care and TMT (technology, media and telecom) sectors have attracted the attention of many investors in recent years due to their fast expansion. And a huge amount of talent is needed in these sectors which also include e-commerce, consumers’ services, urbanization and artificial intelligence.

Other corporate executives including Wang Jian, president of BGI Group, and Woo Chia-Wei, founding president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, also shared with students about their secrets of success.
