Industry Fair opens its doors in the city
The five-day 22nd China International Industry Fair (CIIF2020), the second-largest industry fair worldwide, opened on Tuesday at the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai).
The exhibition area of 245,000 square meters is smaller than last year’s due to the pandemic. However, more than 2,000 exhibitors are registered for the event, with 80 percent of them domestic enterprises.
Some foreign small and medium-sized enterprises are absent because of the pandemic, but multinationals with agents or investment in China are seizing the opportunity to show off their latest technologies and products.
Swiss company ABB is showcasing the latest developments in robotic technology.
“China’s industry is in fast recovery now and plays an irreplaceable role in stabilizing the economy. The 2020 CIIF is really in time as it will help smooth the supply chain and promote quality development of the manufacturing industry,” said Shi Hongyan, an official at China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The fair features many new product launches. For example, ABB, the world leading robot maker, introduced its latest robot developed to meet the demands of the electronics, e-commerce and medicine industries.
“New industries in China are demanding more robotization such as logistics in e-commerce and health care,” said Sami Atiya, president of the Swiss company’s robotics and discrete automation business.
“After participating in the fair for a dozen years, I noticed a clear trend for the fair, that it is more and more showing a smart future in the manufacturing industry instead of just showing products. For example, in ABB’s exhibition, we don’t only display robots, but we show how robots can help in so many fields. We show the future look of automobile factorues, hospitals and the like,” said Gu Chunyuan, chairman of ABB China.
“The holding of the CIIF 2020 does boost confidence for the recovery of China’s industry,” said Pang Xingjian, vice president of Industry Automation China at Schneider Electric.
