Insurer unveils AI health consultant

ZhongAn Online P&C Insurance Co Ltd has unveiled an online health consultant supported by artificial intelligence technology, aiming to offer better health management services for policyholders.

The AI consultant will focus on preventive health care, early screening of diseases and rehabilitation management and provide personalized protection solutions and support services for different groups, including people with chronic diseases and those who don't have a particular problem.

With information on more than 800 diseases and over 1,500 symptoms, the consultant can provide users with online self-examination and risk assessment services, with a current accuracy rate of around 70 percent.

"Through deep learning technology, the AI health consultant can automatically extract massive medical record information to help users establish their health records, give them timely feedback and reduce their medical treatment burden,” said Yan Wen, senior product design director with ZhongAn Online.

According to China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission data, the health insurance segment recorded year-on-year growth of 32 percent in the first half of 2019, the fastest growth of all protection types.

As people's awareness of health improves and there is a growing demand for insurance protection, underwriters are competing each other to provide high-quality health management services and products for users, ZhongAn Online said.
