Oriental Pearl Group Co, Shanghai Media Group’s new media platform, debuted a Smart Center system covering its 100 million users to offer them integrated services, from video, shopping, games and tourism to films, the company said on Monday in Shanghai.

The company also announced a batch of partners including China Mobile and Huawei. Next-generation mobile communications or 5G, which offers high-speed connections and supports super high-definition video transmission, brings unique opportunities to the whole industry, industry officials said at a conference in Shanghai.

It takes about two years for the company to adopt the system, featuring technologies including cloud computing, artificial intelligence and data analysis. The system offers users better services through Oriental Pearl’s services including BesTV, mobile apps, TV shopping and performance center.

Through the system, users are expected to spend 25 percent more time on BesTV interactive TV services and have easier access to the content and services they need.

Also during the conference, Oriental Pearl signed partnerships with firms including Huawei, ZTE and Alibaba’s cloud business on super high-definition video services.

“Super high-definition video will become the first batch of top 5G applications in near future,” Cao Zejun, vice president of Huawei, said at the conference.

China issued 5G licenses to mobile carriers last Friday, marking the official beginning of 5G network construction and 5G service development.
