Huawei builds new chip innovation center in Shanghai

Huawei Technolgies announced during the WAIC event the opening of the Kunpeng Industrial Ecological Innovation Center in Shanghai's Xuhui District.

The Kunpeng processor, Huawei’s first independently designed chip for computer servers, officially made its debut earlier this year. It aimed at boosting development of big data and cloud applications and reducing dependence on foreign chips. It offered more choices besides the likes of Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.

Huawei’s new Shanghai center is a diversified technology center with research in systems, software and AI services.

A related Kunpeng ecosystem alliance was also established in Shanghai on Thursday.
