From patients and soldiers to white-collar workers, theater lovers were awarded on Sunday evening for their performances staged in this year’s Modern Drama Valley.

City Dweller Theater, a platform for amateur performers and troupes to perform, is part of the annual drama festival held in Jing’an District.

Over the last week, 22 dramas were staged in neighborhoods and grassroots cultural centers. Some of them were awarded.

The drama “Not Afraid,” by Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club, won the Best Dweller Drama Award. It chronicles the stories and experiences of cancer patients.

Other awarded dramas include “Long-leg Rain” that tells the stories created between neighbors, and “Return” that follows how community workers helped a jobless and homeless man lead a normal life.
