Nearly 4,000 people will take part in a running event to be held in Daning Park on March 17, Jing’an Sports Bureau said Friday.

Called the 2019 Jing’an International Women’s Marathon, most of the runners are female. They come from 63 cities in China, and ten foreign countries including the US, the UK, Japan, Australia and Tanzania. Some of their male counterparts will accompany them to finish the race.

Wearing pink, a color used to raise breast cancer awareness, the runners will finish either the 10k or 4.5k race.

The park will close to the general public between 7am and 9am on March 17 to create a smooth path for the runners.

“We hope to raise awareness of women's health through the event,” said Yu Biao, head of the bureau. “Also, it is now time to enjoy beautiful tulip blossoms in the park.”
