Nearly 1,000 residents play together.

Nearly 1,000 Jing’an residents played patriotic songs together to celebrate the 70th birthday of the People’s Republic of China.

The residents, from the Jing’ansi Subdistrict, played the national anthem, popular patriotic song “Me and My Country,” and iconic Chinese folk song “Jasmine,” among other classic melodies, on Sunday.

It is a tradition for Jing’ansi residents to play wind instruments. The subdistrict’s first community flute team was established in 1997 in Huashan community and other communities soon followed. Now, more than 1,000 mostly elders eagerly come together for frequent musical celebrations.
