Schools to remain completely closed until new semester begins

Shanghai Education Commission has told all local schools, including kindergartens and nurseries, to remain closed until February 17 to prevent the spread of coronavirus-related pneumonia.

The commission stressed that schools, both public and private, should not organize any classes, group activities or day-care services during the winter vacation. Students should not be asked to return to school before the new semester begins.

It also asked district education bureaus to inform all parents and kindergartens, especially those that planned to reopen ahead of the designated date.

All nurseries are to suspend operations till the end of February.
