A selfless academic has gone way beyond the bounds of duty to help students struggling to get to grips with the complications of math.

Duan Zhenhui, a student who majors in finance at Hunan Agricultural University in Changsha, is so determined to see his fellow pupils pass in their higher math exams that he has taken to teaching in a corridor when the classroom is shut.

The student-cum-teacher had been playing table tennis on his day off yet he was still determined to sacrifice his own time and give fellow scholars a lesson, despite it being late on a Sunday evening.

Lectures are generally given at the office of the mathematical association or in the classroom. Unfortunately the administrator had already left for the evening and had closed the classroom. Undeterred, Duan just set up in the corridor, by a staircase, and gave a math class from 10pm to 11.20pm.

Duan has given the young scholars dozens of extra lessons in the past and helped students explore the most efficient methods to revise for their math exams.

A video of Duan teaching the students appeared on Weibo soon drew praise once it was circulated online. Most Chinese netizens hailed the adaptable student-cum-teacher for his selfless actions and expressed hopes they too would have such a warm-hearted schoolmate, or roommate, in the future.
