A short video of parents from Shenzhen in south China’s Guangdong Province taking turns physically abusing their daughter has triggered outrage on the Internet, China Central Television reported on Tuesday.

The parents have confessed after Shenzhen police began investigating the case on December 23, the publicity department of the city’s Bao’an District Committee announced in its Weibo account. The Women's Federation in the district has applied to the court for a personal safety order for the girl.

As a video clip showed, the mother rushed to strangle her daughter and pushed her to the ground, seemingly out of no reason, as the girl was doing homework. The girl sat back on the seat after getting up off the ground. However, the woman beat the girl violently with a broom seconds later.

According to another clip, a man in a food delivery company uniform slapped the girl severely and kept beating her with a broom as well.

The abuse clips, edited from a home security monitoring app, happened to be found by one of the  father’s fellow mahjong players who once lent his cell phone to him to check the monitor.

The girl, currently accompanied by a professional psychological counselor and social workers, is eating and sleeping normally and will continue school, according to the district’s publicity department. The case is still under investigation.
