The second China International Import Expo will have an autonomous driving experience area which allows participants to get close to the latest technologies, according to a "matchmaking" meeting held in Shanghai on Friday.

Around 20 companies will display self-driving vehicles at the experience area in the outdoor North Exhibition Space during the expo in November.

Visitors will be able to take a ride in self-driving cars to see how they keep to lanes, can brake in an emergency and other features. The experience area will also display integration between vehicles and 5G technology.

Li Lin, general manager of the Shanghai Intelligent Connected Vehicle Innovation Center, said preparatory work for the experience area started in June.

China is actively promoting the development of the autonomous vehicle industry. It is estimated that by 2030, China's new car sales and mobility services related to autonomous driving will generate more than US$500 billion.

A total of 69 auto companies from 16 countries and regions will participate in the second China International Import Expo this year.
