Tesla Model 3s ready to roll
Model 3 cars have rolled off the trial production line at Tesla's Shanghai plant, according to the pictures released on the company's WeChat account on Thursday.
A blue Model 3 has the Chinese characters for Tesla on the rear of the vehicle. On October 25, Tesla said its China-made Model 3, with an autopilot function, would cost from 355,800 yuan (US$50,912).
During a forum at the China International Import Expo on Tuesday, Robyn Denholm, the company's chairman, said construction of Tesla's Shanghai plant had been completed. The electric carmaker is finalizing certification, licensing and other administrative requirements with production beginning by the end of the year.
Tesla broke ground on its Shanghai factory in January, becoming the first to benefit from a new policy allowing foreign automakers to set up wholly owned subsidiaries in China. In July, the city’s development and reform commission said Shanghai-made Tesla Model 3s would be on sale early next year.
