The first batch of Spanish bone ham will make their debut at the second China International Import Expo, following the signing of a protocol in November 2018 that allowed entry of the product into China.

Osborne became the first company to ship Spanish bone ham to China. The product was under the brand Cinco Jotas (5J in Spanish), which has a history of 140 years and sells one-third of its hams around the world.

“Osborne has participated very actively in supporting the protocol. It will be an important boost to pork exports to China, which already occupy first-place in the total agri-food exports from Spain to China,” said Ignacio Osborne, president of the Osborne Group.

“It will allow us to strengthen the leadership of our brand in the Chinese market and, without a doubt, it will boost the international expansion strategy that we have been developing in recent years,” Osborne said.

Osborne Group will be the only representative of Spain to make an appearance at a high-level summit during the CIIE. Its General Director Bill Derrenger will deliver a speech on the “deepening of trade relations between China and Europe” and “the importance of the Chinese market in the group’s exports, with special importance for Cinco Jotas.”

With a population of 1.4 billion people, China is currently the second-largest market for the consumption of Cinco Jotas ham, behind only Spain.
