Building BRICS to 'Kids and Glory'
A co-produced BRICS documentary series titled “Kids and Glory” held its global premiere in Brazil at a forum on BRICS cultural exchange last week.
Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan is the chief director of the series. His former nature documentary film “Born In China” was a success at the box office and in international cultural exchange.
The five-episode documentary is also the first-ever collaboration among filmmakers from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
It tells heart-warming stories about children in various countries pursuing their dreams in soccer and cricket.
It has a universal appeal with the perspective focused on dreams, youth and sports.
Directors in the series hope to arouse public awareness about the growth of the younger generation and improve mutual understanding of different cultures through the sequences.
Most of them are film industry veterans, including Russian director Nastia Tarasova, Indian director Rima Das, South African director Shane Vermooten and the Brazilian director Tiago Arakilian.
Chinese directors Shen Zhaoqing and Zhao Han helm the Chinese story, which is about three girls in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region preparing for a campus soccer competition.
The documentary is expected to propel wide cooperation of the BRICS in art and culture. It will also be made into a documentary film which is slated for release in China in 2020.
