Italian food and culture journey

City’super officials Eugene Gong, Rodney Zheng, and Consul General of Italy in Shanghai Stefano Beltrame, the Trade Commissioner of the Italian Trade Commission Shanghai Office (ITA) Massimiliano Tremiterra as well as celebrity chef Riccardo Messina cut the special “pizza” ribbon at the launch ceremony.
The Italian Food and Culture Journey, sponsored by the Italian Trade Commission Shanghai Office (ITA) and Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, co-organized by The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MiPAAF), and in cooperation with city’super super life, is officially launched at Shanghai city’super super life (Taikoo Hui).
Consul General of Italy in Shanghai Stefano Beltrame, the Trade Commissioner of the Italian Trade Commission Shanghai Office (ITA) Massimiliano Tremiterra and the celebrity chef from The Lab, Riccardo Messina, together with city’super super life officials Jimmy Zhang and Rodney Zheng cut the special "pizza" ribbon at the opening ceremony.
The initiative is to promote the Italian food with PDO/PGI labels which represent the top quality certified by the European Union. They are the signal of health, safety and delicacy.

PDO/PGI products from different Italian regions
Italy is ranking first in Europe with more than 800 products having obtained the certification. With the PDO/PGI ingredients, one can taste authentic Italian high-quality delicacies without going beyond the city.
In 2017, Italian food exports increased by around 17 percent, while agricultural exports to China up by 18 percent. The total exports exceeded 460 million euros.
At city’super until April 18, a special area with strong Italian ambiance is set up displaying the PDO/PGI products from different Italian regions.
During the opening event, chef Riccardo Messina, hailing from Sicily, demonstrated how to create gastronomic experience using PDO/PGI ingredients to give value of simple yet high quality Italian products.

About PDO/PGI
Protected Designation of Origion (PDO)
Protected Designation of Origin-PDO- identifies products that are produced, processed and prepared in a specific geographical area, using the recognized know-how of local producers and ingredients from the region concerned. These are products whose rcharacteristics are linked to their geographical origin. They must adhere to a precise set of specifications and may bear the PDO logo.
Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)
Protected Geographical Indication-PGI- identifies products whose quality or reputation is linked to the place or region where it is produced, processed or prepared, although the ingredients used need not necessarily come from that geographical area. All PGI products must also adhere to a precise set of specifications and may bear the logo.
