Jiading District has completed the installation of charging facilities for electric mopeds and bicycles in 16 of 33 planned communities.

The district has over 300,000 electric mopeds and bikes. Due to lack of charging facilities, residents have to lay power cords and wires through corridors of residential buildings to charge their bikes, which can cause a safety hazard.

However, the problems have been eliminated at some communities.

The Qinle Community on Zhanchuan Road in Anting Town has set up a parking area and five outdoor chargers at the entrance of each residential building. A single charger, which looks like a street lamp, can charge two electric bikes.

At the Nanyuan No.8 Community there are 400 chargers installed in a 1,200-square-meter indoor parking lot. “A full charge of four hours costs only 1 yuan (15 US cents),” said resident Wang Fengjuan.

Smoke detectors are fitted and water sprinklers will turn on if temperatures inside reach 64 degrees Celsius.
