Japanese film festival opened yesterday at the Grand Cinema in Shanghai. 

Running through tomorrow, 10 new Japanese productions, such as sci-fi film "Beautiful Star" and action film "Mukoku,” are presented to film buffs in the cities of Shanghai, Kunming (Yunnan Province) and Shenzhen (Guangdong Province).

In March 2018, new Chinese movies will hit the silver screens in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya for a Chinese film festival. 

The events are a collaboration between Shanghai International Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival.

Japanese actress Hashimoto Ai plays the lead role in the opening film "Beautiful Star," which is based on a novel by Yukio Mishima.
