Emilio, an Italian senior executive with an automobile parts company, walked to the foreigner service station newly established in the Jiading Industrial Zone and was back at his company in just 15 minutes when he applied for a residence permit.

Previously, he used to drive an hour to Jiading New Town to complete the application.

The new station is part of Jiading’s efforts of adding more foreigner service stations in Anting Town and Jiading Industrial Zone to provide better services for foreign residents in the district.

The services include legal counseling on temporary residence permits, visas, residence permit extensions and residence permit appointments.

The new station saves Emilio and the other 30 foreign employees in his company time and money.

With its rapid economic growth, Jiading is attracting more foreigners to work and live in the district.

In the past, only the exit-entry service office in Jiading New Town provided a registration service, resulting in all foreigners in the district having to come to the office to apply for and renew their residence permits.

In Jiading Industrial Zone, there are more than 100 foreign companies with similar needs.

Due to the prolonged application process, applicants’ visas ran the risk of expiring.

So Jiading has worked out a solution that during the residence permit process they will be issued a one-month temporary residence certificate to give foreigners enough time to apply for the permit.
