Starting from Saturday, all trains on the city's Metro Line 1 will run the full distance from Xinzhuang Station to Fujin Road Station during rush hours to ease the traffic burden.

Metro rush hours are work days from 7am until 9am and 5pm until 7pm. This Saturday is considered a work day in China because of the upcoming May Day holiday.

Meanwhile, four more trains will also be put into service on line 1 during work day rush hours, which will reduce the operation gap on journeys between Shanghai Railway Station and Fujin Road from 3 minutes 10 seconds to 2 minutes 44 seconds during the morning rush, and from 3 minutes 21 seconds to 3 minutes during evening peak times.

The service upgrade will not change the schedule of the first and last trains on Line 1, and the operation gap between trains during off-peak times will remain the same, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group said.
