A US-based company donated 60,000 yuan (US$9,390) today to Shanghai Cancer Center to support the treatment of poor patients with colorectal cancer and sponsor colorectal cancer scanning for volunteers who have been actively serving at local hospitals.

The money will also be used for community education on colorectal cancer prevention and control, said officials from Shanghai Cancer Center, a leading cancer treatment facility in the nation.

Officials from American Securities, the donor, said the donation originated from one company employee’s wife dying of colorectal cancer. The donation was made to call public awareness to the disease and help more people.

Colorectal cancer is the second most prevalent cancer in the city, following lung cancer, according to the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
