The man who bagged a 32 million yuan (US$4.67 million) jackpot in the China Welfare Lottery on Sunday is the biggest winner in the city this year.

Lu, bought a lottery ticket on Saturday. He bought the same set of numbers five times and therefore won the jackpot five times and the second prize 20 times.

Lu, retired, has been buying lottery tickets for more than a decade. He always uses the same numbers. He usually spends only 10 yuan (US$1.46), but, feeling quite well off at the moment, bought a quintuple ticket for 50 yuan.

“Doing the lottery is a little hobby of mine,” said Lu. “I’d never thought I would hit the jackpot.”

Lu said he was absolutely blown away by the surprise and didn’t even pause to tell his family before going back to the lottery shop.

Lu donated 500,000 yuan to a local charity after he received the prize, saying that he wanted as many people as possible to share his luck.
