The health quality of local residents has risen from 6.97 percent in 2008 to last year’s 25.36 percent, authorities discovered through questionnaires about knowledge and awareness of health care and medical services.

In an effort to build Shanghai into a Healthy City, health authorities have launched health education events in community and public venues, officials told an international forum on healthy city construction.

Over 60 health officials from home and abroad participated in the forum, discussing topics like smoking, health policies, and road and traffic safety, officials from the Shanghai Health Commission said.

Wu Jinglei, director of Shanghai Health Commission, said the city has entered the sixth round of a three-year healthy city plan and that they will further speed up health education.
