Hospital show for ailing photographer
A photographer suffering a rare type of eye cancer has donated his work to a local hospital to highlight his love of life and his battle against the disease.
Liu Jun, 67, is likely to become blind after surgery and his prognosis is not good.
An exhibition of 56 of Liu's photographs is at Jiahui International Hospital until January 31.
Liu has had a passion for photography since he was a child and his hobby has taken him all over the country.
He found a lump on his left eye in May last year and had surgery while doctors also treated his right eye for a detached retina. The lump was confirmed as cancer and it was in its terminal stage.
Liu was devastated when radiation and chemotherapy failed to improve his condition. He sank into depression after his right eye failed to recover after surgery and in the knowledge that he was going to lose his left eye due to cancer.
“It was too cruel for a photographer,” he said. “The eyes are the tool a photographer uses to communicate with the world and discover beauty.” Liu said his work was a strong support for him during the painful period of chemotherapy.
Liu went to Jiahui International Hospital recently for further consultation and will have surgery there soon.
When Liu said he wanted to donate his work for the hospital to display, the hospital launched this special exhibition to share his spirit among patients and visitors.
