Some 450 local people have donated stem cells, 680 have donated their organs and almost 10,000 people have donated their bodies for the purpose of scientific research, announced local Red Cross officials on Tuesday.

Officials were speaking at a contest to tell Red Cross stories.

A total of 20 stories and 11 speakers received awards from the Shanghai branch of the Red Cross Society of China.

The winners were selected from the 36 stories in the final competition. Based on real cases, they were arranged by writers and artists for performance.

The content ranges from humanitarian aid, first-aid cases, donations of bodies or organs to volunteers’ work.

These are the embodiment of the devotion and services the local Red Cross aims to provide for the public, officials said.

“Through these traditional and down-to-earth performances, more people can have a better understanding about Red Cross and the spirit of humanitarian values,” said Zhang Haoliang, a local Red Cross official.
