The city will have a touch of summer on Sunday with the mercury soaring to 34 degrees Celsius.

But with a cold front from northern China moving in, temperatures will drop to 25 degrees on Tuesday and remain in the 20s for the week.

Skies on Sunday will be a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 34 degrees and a low of 22.

The heat will drop on Monday to a high of 30 degrees under cloudy skies.

Cold air from the north will move into the southern regions late Tuesday with Shanghai affected by the edge of a rain belt.

Wednesday will be dry, Thursday drizzly and the rain will increase to showers on Friday and Saturday. Skies will clear up on Sunday.

The mercury will range between 19 and 27 degrees Celsius from Tuesday to Sunday.

Although many people feel that it already is like summer, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said so far it's still uncertain if Shanghai has entered its meteorological summer.

The official arrival of meteorological summer requires the daily average temperature to be above 22 degrees for five days in a row after solar term lixia, or summer begins. This year's lixia falls on Tuesday.

Generally, the city enters its meteorological summer around May 29.
