Liangliang, the mascot of Bus Line 71, shows children how to use the safety hammer to escape through windows in an emergency.

A colorful mascot has delivered a lecture on bus safety to youngsters to celebrate the upcoming Children’s Day, as well as prepare them for the resumption of school on Tuesday.

The activity took place on Bus line 71 at Yan’an Road Station near the Bund on Sunday.

Youngsters were taught safety measures for emergencies, such as escape methods and how to use fire extinguishers. They were also reminded to wear masks while on the bus.

Line 71 is among the busiest bus routes in Shanghai, with a daily passenger number of over 50,000, and total passenger flow of 50 million over the past three years.

All students in Shanghai will return to their schools by June 2, as the last batch of students, first to third graders and kindergarten students, are set to go back after the long COVID-19 break.

Summer vacation will begin from July 1 for primary school students, July 8 for middle school students and July 15 for high school students.
