According to the original post, released on May 21, all the couples were graduates with the same major from a Chengdu college. Eight couples already had marriage licenses. The class leader, also one of the grooms, planned a group wedding for themselves at a scenic spot in Chongqing that was to celebrate their graduation – as well as love.

A tech company in Chengdu began to promote the Jinfoshan Mountain Scenic Area in Chongqing city, where they held the wedding the next day, on its official Weibo account, Chengdu Business News reported.

Turns out, the officials from the scenic area paid the company to plan this event to promote the area. The class leader also turned out to be a product manager from the company. Another two people were not even graduates. In short, it was an online scam.
