Taiwan cell maker ProLogium Technology Co Ltd to form joint venture with Shanghai-based automaker WM Motor Technology Co
Taiwan cell maker ProLogium Technology Co said today it will establish a joint venture with Shanghai-based electric vehicle maker WM Motor Technology Co to develop batteries for electric cars.
The joint venture will build a battery production line in 2018 with a capacity of 5 gigawatt-hours per year. The production line will start to manufacture lithium ceramic battery by the end of 2019. The companies, however, did not disclose detailed location of the production line and name of the joint venture.
"ProLogium Technology Co Ltd will be responsible for research and development, manufacturing of battery cell inlay which is the core of the battery cell. Based on the cell inlay, WM Motor Technology Co will manufacture battery cell, battery pack and integrate the battery pack into new-energy vehicles," ProLogium said in a note.
ProLogium said the lithium ceramic battery helps electric vehicles to achieve a safe and more efficient electric power system by simplifying the cooling system, protection mechanism and battery management system.
ProLogium Technology Co Ltd and WM Motor Technology Co have already signed the memorandum of understanding on jointly developing lithium ceramic battery in September. Electric car models using the lithium ceramic battery will be unveiled to the public in the first quarter of 2018.
