Rail lines for express trains will stretch to the Waigaoqiao port area in the Pudong New Area in the future, Zhang Lin, Shanghai Transport Commission's deputy director, said on Thursday.

Zhang, speaking at the Yangtze River Delta Shipping Integration Development Forum, said when that happens cargo will be transported to all parts of China faster and at a lower price.

Shanghai will continue building inland waterways for cargo transport in the delta region, Zhang said.

At the forum, an alliance on shipment innovation in the delta region was established by 15 cities with the aim of creating a better business environment for enterprises.

Cai Jun, a transport commission inspector, said integration of transport was the frontline of Yangtze River Delta integration.

Of the world's top 100 cargo ports, five are in the Yangtze River Delta. Shanghai Port and Zhoushan Port in neighboring Zhejiang Province rank first and third.
