Shanghai staged over 39,000 performances last year, and was among the first to suspend all art and cultural performances, including movie screenings, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It has been nearly 50 days now since performances were canceled, venues closed, and visits by maestros delayed, but that doesn’t mean the city’s music lovers have nothing to treat their ears.

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra was among the first to launch a variety of online activities since the end of January, including concert recordings, online classes in various musical instruments by its members, live streaming where its top performers interact with fans and answer their questions, as well as performances by members of the orchestra and their families.
