Xiaokunshan features picturesque landscape and rich culture.

Xiaokunshan Town of Songjiang will be built into a tourist resort based on its picturesque landscape and rich culture, the suburban district's planning and natural resources authority revealed recently.

According to the plan, a culture town to commemorate Lu Ji and Lu Yun, covering an area of 236 hectares, will be constructed.

Xiaokunshan, in the northwest of Songjiang, was the home of Lu Ji (AD 261-303) and Lu Yun (AD 262-303), renowned men of letters during the Western Jin Dynasty (AD 265-317).

As planned, the new culture town, relying on its sloping and pastoral landscape resources, will feature "10 scenic spots of Xiaokunshan," including Xiaokunshan Park, the Tangmiao Village Culture Relics Site, Xia Family Park and the Chen Family Old Residence.

A strategic development program was jointly established by the Xiaokunshan government and Xu Xiake Cultural and Tourism Group.

"We will hold cultural, tourism and sports events, apply for world linear cultural heritage and operate cultural and tourism projects," said Zhang Leijun, a tourism development official of the town.

Xiaokunshan will further explore the cultural heritage of Xu Xiake (1587-1641). Xu, a Chinese travel writer and geographer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is known best for his famous geographical treatise, and noted for his bravery and humility.

Xu visited Sheshan Hill in Songjiang five times between 1624 and 1636, and each time he disembarked at Tangmiao Village of Xiaokunshan.

A renovation of the Tangmiao Village Culture Relics Site will take place. The site will showcase Shanghai's ancestral Songze Culture and the cultural heritage of Xu Xiake.

A park featuring rice-cultivating culture will be built, offering tourists a rural tourism experience integrating folk culture, farming culture, B&B service and camping.
