Hollywood blockbuster “Geostorm” sweeps into Chinese cinemas today, with two other highly anticipated flicks soon to follow.

The American disaster sci-fi film is the directorial debut of producer Dean Devlin, whose earlier works include “The Day After Tomorrow” and “2012.”

Starring Gerard Butler and Jeremy Ray Taylor, the 3D film centers around a satellite designer who tries to save the world when the network of satellites designed to control the global climate start to attack the Earth.

An IMAX version is available to maximize the film’s visually impelling scenes.

A few other Hollywood blockbusters will also be released in China over the next few weeks, including “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Justice League.”

Directed by New Zealander Taika Waititi, “Thor: Ragnarok” is the third installment of the “Thor” series and will hit Chinese silver screens on November 3, while “Justice League,” about a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, will be released on November 17.
