Local hospitals are encouraging medical staff to do more research to boost innovation and improve clinical practice.

Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital announced it has set a record among domestic maternity hospitals in that its 22 research projects have all received recognition and sponsorship from the national science foundation.

Since it is difficult for doctors to do clinical treatment and scientific research at the same time, the hospital allows its doctors involved in scientific research to stop clinical practice in order to ensure they have enough time, while ensuring the security of their income.

These new policies have quickly garnered good results. Some of the research achieved advances like treatment for pregnant patients with cervical cancer. A new in vitro fertilization study's findings have also been put into clinical practice.

The hospital also teamed up with universities to set up a central laboratory, a biological sample bank, as well as institutes to streamline research and the transmission from laboratory research to clinical practice.
