Mugger of female in Putuo District caught

A 35-year-old man suspected of mugging a woman in Putuo District has been detained by Shanghai police with the help of Zhejiang and railway police officers, local police said.

According to local police, officers in Putuo District received a report around 2am on July 4 about a robbery at a residential community in Taopu area. Police said they caught the suspect, surnamed Liu, at the Hangzhou Railway Station with the cooperation of officers from Zhejiang Province as well as railway police. 

The suspect is now under detention and all the victim’s property has been recovered.

The victim recalled that she was stalked by the suspect, dressed in the uniform of a food delivery man, who followed her all the way to a second-floor platform in her complex. There he allegedly robbed her of her cell phone and other property before fleeing.

According to police, Liu used to be a food delivery man but quit his job before wearing the uniform to commit the robbery.
