A smart security system is protecting Thames Town in Songjiang District using systems that include intelligent surveillance, multiple sensors and a 3D sensor management platform.

Thames Town, which opened to the public nearly 12 years ago, has become an identity card for the district as a garden city.

It has become a large community incorporating a tourist site, consumption center and residential area.

However, dated technical equipment presented difficulties with public security management.

Since May, Fangsong Community has been making efforts to improve the security system and make Thames Town the model of a smart, safe and efficient community.

Smart monitoring equipment in the town includes a human structure data comparison system, face-scanning access controllers and black light cameras.

Such equipment manages to provide a better vision for monitoring officers.

“Pictures captured through smart cameras, after being compared with a target person’s clothing and facial features, can generate a trajectory on the digital map and help us trace the whereabouts of the target person,” said Xia Wenjie, who works at Fangsong’s safety office.

Compared to watching footage with the naked eyes, the technology raises efficiency in searching for lost persons or suspicious individuals, Xia added.

So far the human data comparison system has covered dense passenger flow regions and key regions within the town, according to local security officials.

Face-scanning access controllers are installed at gates of corridors of various residential buildings.

To improve weak security prevention measures along river courses, police have installed 10 black light cameras along water channels in the outer ring of Thames Town. The cameras can take clear pictures at night using self-radiated light.

Sensors covering every corner of Thames Town can send instant information to police stations, property management companies or neighborhood committees.
