Medical experts from Shanghai Chest Hospital and the US-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center cooperated on a heart surgery after the two facilities signed collaboration agreement.

Shanghai Chest Hospital has reached an agreement with US-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of the leading medical facilities in heart disease in the US, to cooperate in cardiovascular disease research and treatment in China, the hospital announced over the weekend.

It is Cedars-Sinai's first co-operation project with a professional cardio-thoracic hospital in China's mainland. The two hospitals plan to enhance professional cooperation and introduce Chinese patients to the US for certain therapies and technologies which are not available so far in China.

"Some surgical treatment for patients with valve diseases haven't been launched in China, as the equipments haven't been approved by the China Food and Drug Administration," said Dr He Ben from Shanghai Chest Hospital. "Through the program, we can select such patients and help them get effective treatment in the US hospital."

"We will send young doctors and receive training in Cedars-Sinai to learn the latest technologies and theories," He said.

Executives from Cedars-Sinai said the collaboration can benefit both hospitals and it is glad to provide opportunity for Chinese physicians who are interested in the technologies and treatment in the US.
