Shanghai Party chief pledges more exchange and cooperation with Cuba

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Jose Ramon Balaguer, secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of the International Department of Cuba, and his delegation on Tuesday.

Li briefed his guests on the Party building in Shanghai and the city’s economic and social development, and its opening up and reforms. He said China and Cuba are good friends with shared destiny and interests.

China and Cuba’s diplomatic relations have weathered many sorts of challenges and the people of the two countries have deep friendship.

In recent years, the two parties and the two countries have been ever expanding their exchanges and cooperation in various industries under the direction of President Xi Jinping and Raul Castro, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Currently, the city is accelerating the process of building itself into an excellent metropolis and a globally influential socialist city.

Cuba is implementing its upgrade of social and economic models and there are great cooperation prospects for the two countries.

Shanghai is willing to implement the consensus reached by the top leaders of both countries, and further promote their exchanges and cooperation in various industries, Li added.

Balaguer said China has undergone great changes and has achieved astonishing achievements under the leadership of the CPC.

Cuba is striving to accelerate its upgrade of social and economic models and it is willing to learn from China’s experience and strengthen the two countries’ cooperation.

Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
