A creative repertoire that juxtaposes traditional art with emerging technologies has made its debut this week.

“When the East Meets the West,” produced by Shanghai Conservatory of Music, was staged at Shanghai Theater Academy on Thursday and Friday as part of the Rising Artist’s Works (R.A.W!) Land in the 20th Shanghai International Arts Festival.

It spans boundaries of Eastern and Western cultures, and encompasses music, dance, painting and other art forms. It is supplemented with digital and multimedia technologies.

“We try to explore the application of modern technologies in traditional art forms and attracts young people to the theater, said Dai Xiaorong, in charge of the project.

Renowned modern dance artist Huang Doudou was one of the performers.

In his solo dance “Mirror and World,” his dancing practice videos over the past two years were played as background. It’s a way of him talking to himself, he said.
