Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Fumuko Hayashi, mayor of Yokohama, and Ken Matsumoto, councilor of Yokohama City Council, yesterday.

Ying said this year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship Between Japan and China and it’s good to see the bilateral relations between the two countries are back on track and have achieved great results.

Yokohama is the first foreign city with which Shanghai established twin city tie, and the successful mutual visits of the two cities’ mayors have helped enhance the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

Shanghai is grateful for Japan’s participation in the first China International Import Expo, which was held from November 5 to 10, and the city hopes more Japanese companies can participate in the future expos to share business opportunities.

Following the consensus reached by top leaders of China and Japan, Shanghai will contribute to and advance the bilateral relations. The city will learn from Yokohama’s experience in the elderly care, three-dimensional transport and comprehensive garbage treatment.

Also, Shanghai will implement the friendly exchange agreement signed with Yokohama in June to further strengthen the cooperation in trade, urban management, culture and education, Ying added.

Hayashi and Matsumoto congratulated Shanghai on its successful hosting of the CIIE and said Yokohama will keep deepening its friendship with Shanghai and expanding the cooperation in various fields, and Yokohama hopes Shanghai could achieve even greater development in the future.
