Famous President Xi quotes theme of calligraphy competition
An exhibition kicked off on Wednesday at the Shanghai Wu Changshuo Memorial Hall to showcase 61 pieces of calligraphy about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s thoughts on diplomacy.
The event, in the theme of people-to-people diplomacy, was hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai government, the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and some other parties, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up campaign.
All calligraphy works were created by famous calligraphers in Shanghai, including advisers and members of the Shanghai Calligraphers' Association and award winners in major national contests. All were based on famous quotes from Xi’s important speeches and articles on diplomacy.
The works on display include one of the most famous quotes from Xi: “Amity between the people holds the key to sound state-to-state relations and rests with empathy.”
It was scribed out by 98-year-old Gao Shixiong, an adviser to the Shanghai Calligraphers Association.
Noyan Rona from Turkey, a Magnolia award winner and an honorary citizen of Shanghai where he has lived for 35 years, said the exhibition was a good opportunity for foreigners to learn Chinese culture and China’s vision about the Belt and Road initiative.
Rona said he loved Chinese calligraphy, one of China’s traditional culture forms, and has been collecting calligraphy works.
The exhibition will open to the public for free from tomorrow to December 27.
