Mayor Ying meets Lord Mayor of the City of London

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Peter Estline, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, and his delegation on Wednesday.

Ying said finance is Shanghai’s pillar industry and its core function. The city is working hard to build itself into an international financial center, improving its multi-layered financial market system, and attracting more financial institutes to settle here.

To optimize the city’s financial sector environment, Shanghai set up the only financial court in the country and has unveiled the 100 measures to further open up its financial sector.

The City of London is a renowned international financial center that has a lot of experience in building a financial environment, cultivating talent, and promoting financial innovations.

Shanghai hopes to deepen cooperation with the City of London and learn from its experience. It welcomes more of London’s financial institutes to settle in the city and support Shanghai’s efforts in turning itself into an international financial center, the mayor added.

Estline said that Shanghai’s efforts to build the “five centers” and “four brands” are impressive, so are its ambition and vision to promote financial openness and innovation. The City of London was glad to accept Shanghai’s invitation to be the partner city at the Lujiazui Forum 2019.

Also, it hopes to further strengthen cooperation with the city in the Shanghai-London Stock Connect project.

Wu Qing, vice mayor of Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
