A plan to establish Songjiang as a traffic hub will be completed by the end of the year.

On October 9 last year, the National Reform and Development Commission approved a feasibility study on building a new high-speed railway connecting Shanghai with Suzhou in Jiangsu Province and Huzhou in Zhejiang Province.

Wu Jinping and her husband work in Songjiang, while her parents and children live in Huzhou, their hometown. It takes her an hour and 48 minutes to go from Songjiang South Railway Station to Huzhou by the current high-speed rail.

“When the new high-speed rail is completed, I can arrive in Huzhou in less than an hour. By then I can even return to my hometown on working days,” said Wu.

The current route between Songjiang and Huzhou is in the shape of a letter V, though the two places are about the same latitude. The G7391 high-speed train transiting Songjiang and Huzhou starts from Songjiang South Railway Station and heads southwest along the Huhang Railway to reach Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province. Then it turns north along the Ninghang Railway to arrive in Huzhou.

The new high-speed rail route between Songjiang and Huzhou forms the shape of a letter S. The distance between the two places is shorter and less time-consuming.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou Railway, or Husuhu Railway, will be 163.54 kilometers long and stop at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, Songjiang South Railway Station, Fenhu Station, Wujiang South Station, Nanxun Station and Huzhou Station.

Until then, Songjiang South Railway Station will be the traffic hub of Songjiang District. The railway station will be expanded to have two waiting halls, the south hall to serve passengers taking the Huhang Railway and the north hall to serve those taking other railway lines.

The future traffic hub will also be connected with Metro lines, tramcar lines, bus lines and long-distance coach lines, according to Songjiang’s traffic commission.

So far the daily passenger flow of Songjiang South Railway Station is 5,000 people. It is estimated that the future traffic hub will have a yearly passenger flow of 20 million.

Songjiang traffic hub, when completed, will facilitate transport between Songjiang and other major cities in the Yangtze River delta region and make urban agglomeration possible.
