Education ministry and Shanghai to work hand-in-hand

The Ministry of Education and Shanghai government will continue to work together on education reform this year, the two parties announced at a meeting in Shanghai on Thursday.

The ministry and city will cooperate in four key areas—comprehensive student development,  first-level universities and academic specialties, serving the country and reforms on educational systems.

Minister of Education Chen Baosheng laid out eight key tasks for the city, including working for the integration of education in the Yangtze River Delta region, making best use of the latest vocational education and promoting family education.

He also stressed the city should reduce the burden on teachers and students, regulate off-campus training organizations and reform assessment.

Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai, said the city will reform teaching approaches and school management.
