An unlicensed 17-year-old motorcyclist using fake plates has died after being thrown from an elevated road, traffic police said on Wednesday.

The motorcyclist, surnamed Nie who was born in Jiangxi Province, fell from the Wenshui Overpass on the North-South Elevated Road on Tuesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The minimum age for a motorcycle license in China is 18.

Police say he lost control and hit the cement divider, but was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Only cars and other motor vehicles are allowed on elevated roads.
