Plans for new film productions, TV series and a variety show were announced by the Cultural Investment Holdings on Sunday during the ongoing 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival.

Movies that will be made cover the genres of fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, romance, action and suspense.

Famous Hong Kong filmmaker Mak Siu-fai, known for “Infernal Affairs” and “Overheard,” will direct a thriller about the justice of prosecution. 

Production for a sci-fi movie, based on award-winning writer Liu Cixin’s film script “World End Rescue,” is also underway. The script was penned by Liu before “The Three Body Problem.”

Crosstalk artist Guo Degang, meanwhile, announced that he will cooperate with the Cultural Investment Holdings on a film, TV sitcom and TV drama about the development of Chinese crosstalk.

A new variety show to discover talented Chinese young filmmakers will also be presented.
