The Lujiazui area in Pudong has been spruced up with floral displays for the upcoming National Day holiday. 

More than 60 activities, including traditional Chinese opera performances, concerts, exhibitions, a magic festival, qipao shows, photography competition and cycle race, will be held across Shanghai over the upcoming seven-day National Day holiday, providing many choices for those staying in the city, the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism announced on Tuesday.

An exhibition featuring items widely used by Shanghai residents in the 1930s is at the Jin Mao Tower in the Pudong New Area. The 50 exhibits include telephones, cameras, radios and phonographs.

Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu District will host an urban forest carnival and forest beer festival featuring beer from countries including Germany, Ireland and Belgium with some rare flavors, together with a variety of foods such as roast meat, sausages and ice cream from Saturday.

Beer-themed activities, including a beer competition, and haipai culture (the unique Shanghai-style culture of East-meets-West) performances will be staged at the park.

The site of the Second National Congress of the Communist Party of China in Jing'an District will display historical buildings, former residences of celebrities, and cultural and tourism landmarks via virtual reality over the holiday.

Already underway in Xuhui District are the 2019 Fuxing Art Festival, featuring jazz music and street art, at the Hengfu (Hengshan and Fuxing roads) Historical Conservation Zone and Shanghai Coffee Week with coffee brewing, tasting, art and tours.

A visitor admires sunflowers at Chenshan Botanical Garden 

Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District will host a nature festival during the holiday. Fruit and vegetable picking and a lecture on sunflowers will be held on October 2. Music performances, delicacies and interactive activities will be held at the garden through the festival.

The monthlong Nanxiang xiaolong (small steamed bun) culture festival will start on Saturday, inviting tourists to a xiaolong banquet with traditional Chinese opera performances and a temple fair.

At Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park in Pudong, a naval vessel exhibition, electronic music party, dragon and lion dances and traditional Chinese opera performances are among its holiday offerings.

At Fangta Park in Songjiang District, an exhibition featuring old photos to mark the 70-year anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China will open on October 1.

Craftsmen in dough modeling and sugar painting will display their skills and interact with visitors at the park during the holiday.

At Zuibaichi Park in Songjiang, a guzheng concert will be held on October 3 with qipao shows, and traditional Chinese operas including Peking and Kunqu will be staged on October 4.

At the Jinshan City Beach scenic area, concerts will be staged on October 4 and 5.

At the China Maritime Museum in Pudong, a maritime silk road antique exhibition will be hosted during the holiday, and "maritime magic" tours will be organized.

An international magic festival will run through the holiday at Shanghai Happy Valley in Songjiang featuring escapology and stunts.

A qipao cultural art festival will be held at the Shanghai Film Park with qipao shows, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, and Shanghai dialect and photography competitions. Classic Chinese films will be screened outdoors at the park during the holiday.

A cycle race will take place at the Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading District on October 2.

Exhibitions and haipai culture performances will be held in Xujiahui area through the holiday.

The Guangfulin countryside park will host a camping festival with music on October 2 and 3, inviting campers to sleep under the stars to experience the charm and beauty of Songjiang.

A paper art exhibition is at Fengxian Museum, while an autumn flower exhibition is at the Pujiang countryside park in Minhang District, featuring nearly 600,000 flowers from around the world.
